Overcoming site challenges: installing a 16-Person Modular Decontamination Unit in North Sheffield

At one of our recent projects in North Sheffield, our Support Services team demonstrated exactly what it takes to deliver a fully operational decontamination solution under challenging site conditions.

Our specialist engineers, Andy and Paul, assembled and commissioned a 16-person modular decontamination unit, ensuring it was ready for site operatives to begin work safely and efficiently.

While constructing the unit itself was a key part of the project, there was much more involved behind the scenes. The team completed a full installation and testing programme, including:

🚿 Installation and commissioning of a four-shower water management system
🍃 Installation and testing of the Negative Pressure Unit (NPU)
⚡ Wiring and verification of all lighting and electrical systems
🪞 Installation of internal benches, sinks and mirrors

What makes this achievement even more impressive is the timescale. From start to finish, the entire assembly process was completed in just 90 over minutes.

The project also presented a number of technical challenges. The unit needed to be positioned on a scaffolding platform while fitting precisely between existing scaffold columns. Careful planning, engineering expertise and teamwork ensured the installation was completed safely and successfully.

The result is a decontamination facility that delivers significant operational benefits. By locating the unit directly within the work area, operatives now have a much shorter transit route compared to using a traditional road-towable unit, with the nearest accessible road 150 yards away. This saves valuable time, improves efficiency and helps streamline day-to-day site operations for the customer.

Projects like this highlight the expertise and adaptability of our Support Services team, who continue to deliver practical solutions even in the most demanding environments.
